Allen Brown, President and CEO of The Open Group, will present at the November 2011 EA Forum seminars in Pretoria and Johannesburg. His topic, “Enterprise Transformation and the Role of Open Standards” will include insight into setting expectations and planning transformation, the role of standards in enterprise transformation, and the work of the members of The Open Group.

The Open Group has released the TOGAF® SABSA® Integration Whitepaper which serves as a guide on how to integrate security and risk management approaches into enterprise-level architectures. It aims to help architects align IT security decisions with critical business goals while reducing costs and improving interoperability across the enterprise. 

Real IRM attended, presented and exhibited at the GMSI (now MineRP) conference in Cape Town on 12-14 October 2011. 

Sarina Viljoen, senior consultant at Real IRM and EMMMv Forum Director, presented a case study on Real IRM's use of the Exploration and Mining Business Reference model (a product of the EMMMv forum). She also touched on the work the forum is currently completing. 

Sybase will be sponsoring the The Open Group SA’s EA Forum in Johannesburg. The seminar is scheduled for 18h00 on the 26th of October at Summer Place in Hyde Park. 

This month’s speaker is Parsons Brinckerhoff’s Juan le Roex who will present on their use of BPM for large engineering projects. The event will follow its usual format that includes a presentation, Q&A discussion and networking session. This is a free event open to all those interested in enterprise architecture and related disciplines.

The Open Group SA will be hosting our first Enterprise Architecture (EA) Forum seminar in the KwaZulu Natal area on 27 October 2011. Having built up a significant following in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town through our monthly EA Forum events, The Open Group SA is now including Durban on the schedule.

The Open Group has launched its new book "Cloud Computing for Business" which is part of the on-going work of The Open Group Cloud Computing Work Group. The publication takes an in-depth look at Cloud Computing and how enterprises can derive the greatest business benefit from its potential. It explores the importance of Cloud Computing within the overall technology landscape and provides practical advice for companies considering using the Cloud, as well as ways to assess the risk in Cloud initiatives and build return on investment.

CEO at Real IRM, Stuart Macgregor, will present a paper at the IT Architecture in Finance Conference and Exhibition from 12-14 October at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways, Johannesburg. His presentation, Enterprise Architecture Services for Governance, Risk and Compliance, focuses on how enterprise architecture (EA) supports governance, risk and compliance (GRC), and provides a look at the EA services and tools that address GRC. Stuart will also discuss the establishment of a business-appropriate EA practice and its pivotal role.

Real IRM has received a great response to our graduate recruitment drive. The company is offering a six-month consulting internship programme to select IT/business graduates hoping to pursue careers in enterprise architecture. The internship programme provides participants training, on-the-job mentoring and invaluable experience at client sites.

Stuart Macgregor, CEO at Real IRM, will discuss governance at the August EA Forum seminars to be held in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Cape Town in August.

In his presentation, Stuart will focus on governance as the key to entrenching enterprise architecture into an organisation and realising business benefit from it. He will also touch on the mapping between COBIT® 4.0 and TOGAF® and will offer some insight into COBIT® 5 and how the new release supports EA.

The EA Forum events are scheduled for 23 August in Pretoria, 24 August in Johannesburg and 26 August in Cape Town.

Real IRM will be providing TOGAF® 9 training in Cape Town in August 2011. The course is open to the public and promises an interactive training experience that combines formal training with informal class discussion.
