INTRODUCTION

Real IRM is the only South African company to offer a certification training course on the new ArchiMate 2.0 Enterprise Architecture modelling standard published by The Open Group.

ArchiMate® is not competing with domain-specific languages like BPMN or UML, but is rather a complimentary language that describes the main concepts within the business, application and technology domains as well as creating linkages between these different domains. The use of the ArchiMate meta-model and viewpoints reduce the need for organisations to develop their own custom meta-model and modelling notation when creating architectures.

The ArchiMate 2.0 Standard is fully aligned with TOGAF® and supports modeling throughout the Architecture Development Method (ADM). It provides a vendor-independent set of concepts, that helps to create a consistent, integrated model “below the waterline”, which can be depicted in the form of TOGAF® views. The language structure of the ArchiMate® Core corresponds with the three main architectures as addressed in phases B, C & D in the TOGAF® ADM. In addition, the extensions to the Core closely correspond with the main aspects to be addressed in the Preliminary phase, Phase A and the Central Requirements management repository, as well as Phases E, F, G and H.

WHAT IS ARCHIMATE® 2.0?

ArchiMate® 2.0 is The Open Group's open and independent modelling language for enterprise architecture that provides instruments to enable enterprise architects to describe, analyze, and visualize the relationships among business domains in an unambiguous way. It offers a common language for describing the construction and operation of business processes, organizational structures, information flows, IT systems, and technical infrastructure. This insight helps stakeholders to design, assess, and communicate the consequences of decisions and changes within and between these business domains.

Prerequisites

It is assumed that the delegate has some experience with modelling techniques, understands basic Enterprise Architecture concepts, is familiar with information technology and can use basic Visio.

Course Description

ArchiMate® 2.0 Certification Training is a two-day course that ensures delegates are knowledgeable about ArchiMate®. All aspects of the ArchiMate® 2.0 standard are discussed, including the ArchiMate meta-model, language structure, viewpoints and language extensions. Examples and exercises are used throughout the course to make the theory practical.

Delegates receive the ArchiMate® 2.0 standard and electronic Visio templates/stencils, as well as their certification exam vouchers as part of their course packs.

Course Instructor

The course instructors are ArchiMate® certified and have architecture experience both from consulting and corporate view-points and are thus familiar with many real world challenges.

Course Outcomes

Candidates completing the course will understand the structure and meta-model of the ArchiMate language and will be able to identify and use the appropriate ArchiMate® viewpoints when modelling.

The Open Group Releases ArchiMate® 2.0

The Open Group has released ArchiMate® 2.0, the latest version of the open and independent modeling language for Enterprise Architecture. ArchiMate® 2.0 is now more closely aligned with TOGAF® and enables the creation of fully integrated models of an organization's Enterprise Architecture, the motivation behind it, and the programs, projects and migration paths to implement it.

Impact of TOGAF® 9.1 Release on TOGAF® 9 Certification

The TOGAF® 9 People Certification program has been designed to accommodate maintenance updates (such as TOGAF® 9.1) to the TOGAF® 9 specification. Thus, the certification remains as “TOGAF® 9 Foundation” and “TOGAF 9 Certified”, and individuals who are currently certified in the TOGAF® 9 People Certification program remain certified.

What’s New in TOGAF® 9.1?

TOGAF® 9.1 was released on 1 December 2011. It contains a set of corrections to address the feedback submitted since the introduction of TOGAF® 9 in 2009. This new version has addressed over 400 of the comments received, resulting in over 450 changes to the standard.
The changes are upwards compatible adding clarification, consistency and additional detail where needed. Some of the most significant updates include:

TOGAF® 9 Training in the Cape

Real IRM will be providing TOGAF® 9 training in Cape Town in August 2011. The course is open to the public and promises an interactive training experience that combines formal training with informal class discussion.

A Foundation in Data Modelling

Understanding the data structures within an organisation is the key to successful data management. This understanding is reached by modelling the various data structures using the industry standard notations. Real IRM’s Data Modelling Foundation course addresses this by tackling both relational operational databases and dimensional analytical cubes.

SA TOGAF® Adoption Ranked Fifth in the World

South Africa is ranked fifth in the world when it comes to TOGAF® 9 certification numbers. According to The Open Group, at the beginning of June there were already 7,200 individuals certified from more than 50 countries worldwide. Following on the heels of the UK, Netherlands, USA and Australia, South Africa has 5.5% of all these certified individuals.

In South Africa, the first TOGAF® course was presented by Real IRM in 2006. Since then the company has certified hundreds of individuals both locally and abroad, and continues to present public and in-house courses each month.

Open Group Certification: A World Standard

A certification provides assurance that individuals have the expertise and experience required to get the job done. The Open Group offers three certifications for practitioners; TOGAF® Certification, IT Architecture Certification (ITAC) and IT Specialist Certification (ITSC).
